An account of the years over which the author came to know well the badgers who lived near Punchbowl Farm, set in the framework of life on the farm.
As the main interest of the book is away from the family, there is less autobigraphical material than in the preceding two books.
It is illustrated by her own photographs throughout, demonstrating her high degree of competence with the camera, as well as with the pen and observation of these elusive wild creatures.
